Rural Self-Help Program
Summit County
The Mountainlands Community Housing Trust and the U.S. Department
of Agriculture sponsor this program to help owners purchase a house
through “sweat equity.” Participants work as a group to build about 65%
of each of their homes in 10-11 months. The labor serves as a down
payment, reducing the price of the home by 20%. Qualified participants
may also be eligible for reduced interest rate loans.
Qualifications:
- 60% or less AMI (see Area Median Income Levels).
- Minimum 620 credit score.
- Do not exceed allowable debt by USDA standards.
- Do not currently own home.
Requirements:
- Purchase Builders Risk Policy to insure home.
- Contribute minimum of 30 hours per week to building.
