Rural Self-Help Program

Summit County
The Mountainlands Community Housing Trust and the U.S. Department of Agriculture sponsor this program to help owners purchase a house through “sweat equity.” Participants work as a group to build about 65% of each of their homes in 10-11 months. The labor serves as a down payment, reducing the price of the home by 20%. Qualified participants may also be eligible for reduced interest rate loans.

Qualifications:

• 60% or less AMI (see Area Median Income Levels).
• Minimum 620 credit score.
• Do not exceed allowable debt by USDA standards.
• Do not currently own home.

Requirements:

• Purchase Builders Risk Policy to insure home.
• Contribute minimum of 30 hours per week to building.
